The family tree building trend happened, then came the DNA trend, but not as many got into the ancient DNA My guess is most of the ones that did extend to Ydna and mtDNA were people with small amounts of Ashkenazi that showed up in them. Some being Jews that felt they should be higher and others investigating the Jewish link. Country breakdowns most had an idea of from family where they were from. Now my Grandma used to say we were Hines 57 mix and she would rattle off many countries.
That was on Mom's side her Mom. Now Dad, he would say they were Swiss only as that the paternal side.The Ancient Path for 2% Ashkenazi
I knew what I was after, the paternal of my Dad and the paternal roots of my husband so I jumped in with both tests for my brother and for my husband. I did posts on each one for the 5 generation. My ancestry tree didn't help at all with my brothers 2% Ashkenazi even with tracing it in Switzerland with church records back to 1600's. In research back then I did find out governments used to count on the church for these type numbers. People got married in church then. Well, I had forgotten about the Ydna but did want to get the mtDNA done for both. My husband's I think all I had to do is pay for it, I don't remember him having to do another test. To get mine I did myself, so I had them send me a test kit. I did not pay them for a 5 generational as I had uploaded my Ancestry one.
I didn't pay to much attention to the mtDNA results of myself nor my husband. I did know both were not common so a little rare. There was not all that much info that I recall. It was later in 2024 when I logged in again and noticed new things. I will put that on a different post as they offered more information. Ydna was still my focus though not mtDNA I just wanted things complete is all.
